General Checkup
General checkup is going to the dentist regularly in regular intervals of 6 months for general oral checkup. Evaluation of teeth gums and oral cavity is very important for the prevention of any kind of diseases.
It is often said, mouth is the mirror of the body. Sometimes, systemic diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, has visible signs at earlier stages in oral cavity. Precancerous& Pre – malignant lesions can be evaluated at earlier stage before they turn malignant.
Evaluation includes
- PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
- RADIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION
- PATIENT EDUCATION
- PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
- Evaluation of oral cavity to detect :
- Pre malignant & malignant lesions
- Red & white lesions
- Any systemic diseases because, a lot of systemic diseases show their first sign in oral cavity
- Evaluation of sensitive teeth, non – vital teeth.
- Evaluation of any kind of TMJ (Temporomandibularjoint) disorders which can also occur as referred pain in ear, head, neck, shoulder on back. TMJ disorders mostly remain undiagnosed and untreated in several patients
- Evaluation of pain occurring in teeth on gums on joints and finding the reason behind.
- Evaluation of carious teeth and starts conservative treatment as carious teeth show no signs and can only be detected with general checkup
2. RADIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION
- IOPA / RVG: RVG (Radiovisiography ) is the digital from for IOPA (Intra oral Peri-apical ) X-ray RVG is a minimal exposure of X-ray which is mostly done at a dental clinic to detect the cause of pain in a teeth on studying X-ray for a small area .
- OPG: OPG (Orthopantomagram ) is a panoramic scanning X-ray of upper and lower jaw OPG is done when the X-ray for lot of teeth have to be studied . Any TMJ anomaly can also be detected. Maxillary sinus problems can also be studied by OPG.
- CBCT: CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography system) are variation of CT (computed tomography) systems. It gives accurate & dimensional (3D) imaging of hard tissue structures.
