A. REMOVABLE

• Removable partial denture (RPD): This is given when 1 or more teeth are missing. Made of PMMA (poly methyl Methacrylate) .This prosthesis is biocompatible and has to be removed at night. 
• Cast partial denture (CPD): This is given when 1 or more teeth are missing. The CPD is harder and stronger compared o RPD and is made of cobalt chromium alloy. It is thinner than RPD and functionally helps better in eating food.
• COMPLETE DENTURE (CD): The patients who have completely lost their teeth of upper jaw or low jaw or both can undergo this treatment. dentures are generally made of PMMA AND CAN BE MADE OF COBALT CHROMIUM ALLOY FOR HIGHER DURABILITY and strength .Dentures have to be cleaned every day before sleeping and removed and kept in a clean water container

B. FIXED

• CROWNS & BRIDGES: Crowns are generally called “CAPS” in a layman language. These are placed on teeth when teeth break due to some reason or after undergoing RCT. Crowns are sometimes placed to beautify a discoloured broken short tooth and are also used in smile designing. Bridges are used to replace 1, 2, 3 or sometimes 4 missing teeth depending on their location. They are called bridges because they connect existing 2 teeth present in the mouth with artificial teeth in place of missing teeth. The existing teeth are shortened and are used as abutments to replace the missing teeth. Crowns & bridges both can be made from nickel –chromium, porcelain fused to nickel – chromium, lithium disilicate, pressed ceramic etc.
• DENTAL IMPLANTS: Missing teeth can also be replaced with dental implants. Dental implants are generally made of titanium and work on the principle of osseointegration i.e they fuse to the bone and become an integral part of the body. After they fuse, a cap is placed if one tooth is missing and bridge is placed to connect two implants if 2 or more teeth are missing. Implants can be used to replace all of the missing teeth of a jaw or both the jaws. Fixed treatment is generally more acceptable and comfortable for a patient as compared to removable prosthesis.
