Faciomaxllary Surgery

Face has muscles, ligament, bones, veins, arteries, joints, nerves all working in harmony. Surgery of head, neck and facial region is called FACIOMAXILLLARY SURGERY. The following surgeries/ treatments comes under this category.
- OROFACIAL INJURY AND ITS TREATMENT: Injury on face due to trauma. Varies from small cut to large avulsed wound. It can be due to accident or frictional trauma. MICROVASCULAR SUTURING is done under loops to avoid scaring and for finest results.
- FRACTURE OF JAW OR FACE: Fracture of face can be accidental or any kind of infection or abscess .Fracture can be both in the mandible or maxilla and in the temporomandibular joint / jaw joint. Fixation is done either intraorally or extraorally with help of titanium plates or titanium screws.
- SWELLING OR INFECTION OF FACE, NECK AND HEAD: Swelling of face, neck, head due to cyst, tumor, swollen lymph nodes or any kind of infection. Incision and drainage is done intraorally or extraorally depending on the extent of the infection.
- TM JOINT DISORDERS: Patients suffering from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain usually do not get proper diagnosis and visit several doctors. The TMJ pain can refer to ear, head, neck, shoulders and even back, therefore it becomes difficult to diagnose . The patient may have pain while chewing, opening the mouth, clicking sound while closing the mouth, locking of jaw while yawning. The TMJ disorders are of various types and therefore its treatment is done after the diagnosis is made. The treatment at an early stage is very important in such disorders because earlier the diagnosis and treatment, better is the prognosis.
- SALIVARY GLAND DISORDERS: Dryness of mouth, excessive salivation, pain which usually occurs while eating, swollen jaw, swollen floor of mouth or face are some of the symptoms of dysfunctioning / malfunctioning salivary gland. Salivary gland surgery is done according to the diagnosis of the patient.
- SINUS SURGERY: Maxillary sinus is a small empty space in the maxillary bone lined by epithelium. Roots of maxillary molar/ premolar teeth is lying in close proximity to the sinus. When pain in sinus occurs, it is diagnosed by pain in teeth and blocked nose. It may sometimes occur due to traumatic extraction. Due to extraction the root of the tooth may be pulled into sinus. Same can occur during dental implant placement. Dental implant can also be pulled into the sinus. Surgery has to be done to retrieve the root or implant. Other treatments are also done to treat the maxillary sinus.
- FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY: Cosmetic facial surgery such as dimple placement , removal of wrinkles , facial drooping , treatment of excessive muscle twitching with help of botulin toxin (BOTOX) or surgery
- CLEFT LIP AND PALATE: New born suffer from cleft lip, palate or cleft of face. Surgery is done usually at an early age and multiple surgeries are done to close the cleft. Along with surgery speech therapy session are also done.
- HEAD AND NECK ONCOLOGICAL SURGERY: Oral cancer is 2nd most common type of cancer. Cause of cancer may vary from sharp dental cusp to adverse habits of chewing tobacco in any form. Treatment done to remove above malignant tumor falls under this category.
- ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY: Under this category falls surgery of maxilla, mandible or both jaws which are deformed (abnormally formed) , malaligned or abnormal in size ( short or large ) .
- CONGENITAL ANOMALIES: Treatment of Missing , deformed absence of structure of face or cranium falls under this category .
